How Much Does a Kitchen Renovation Cost in Brisbane?
One of the most common questions we get is, how much does a kitchen cost? The honest answer is that it is a little bit like asking how long is a piece of string. We can do kitchens anywhere from around $20,000 up to $70,000 and beyond, and it really depends on what finishes you choose and how big your kitchen is.
At the moment, we normally say our average kitchen cost is around the $30,000 to $35,000 mark. But obviously that can vary quite a lot depending on the materials, layout, cabinetry, benchtops and the overall size of the renovation.

What affects the cost of a kitchen renovation?
The biggest factor is usually the finishes. For example, customers will often be choosing between laminate doors and two pack doors. If you want a flat door, normally we would just go a melamine laminate because it is more cost effective and also really hard wearing. If you want a routed door, like a Hamptons style door or a shaker style door, then it has to be in two pack, because you cannot laminate something that is not flat.
Your benchtop choice also makes a big difference. We can do laminate, engineered stone, sintered stone and solid surface, and the jump from engineered stone down to a laminate benchtop is usually a couple of thousand dollars.
Within engineered stone, there are usually different ranges as well. So instead of going for a more premium veiny stone, you might go for a more entry-level stone with more of a rocky granite look, and that can quite often save you a fair bit of money too.
How can you reduce the cost without losing the look?
If someone wants a high-end looking kitchen but does not necessarily want every finish to be high end, there are definitely a few levers you can pull.
The main ones would be:
- Going from a two pack door down to a laminate door
- Choosing a more entry-level option within the engineered stone range
- Going from stone benchtops to laminate benchtops
Those are usually the main changes you can make in the finishes that will bring the budget down. So if you are trying to get the look you want while still being mindful of cost, that is often where we would start.
Can you estimate a kitchen renovation by square metre?
Not really. It really comes down to what finishes you pick and how big your kitchen is. Two kitchens that are a similar size can end up at very different price points depending on the cabinetry style, benchtop material, splashback choice and the amount of cabinetry involved.
That is why having a conversation with a designer is usually the best starting point. Once you know what style you are drawn to and what materials you want to include, it becomes much easier to narrow down a more realistic budget.
What does a more expensive kitchen include?
On the higher end, a kitchen renovation can be a very big project. The most expensive kitchen Megan personally mentioned was almost $80,000. That renovation included:
- An expansive layout
- A butler's pantry
- Two pack cabinetry
- A huge island
- Lots of cabinetry
- High-end stone
So when you move into that upper end of the budget range, it is usually not just one thing pushing the price up. It is the overall size of the kitchen, the amount of joinery, and the quality of the finishes throughout.
So what should you budget for a kitchen renovation in Brisbane?
As a rough guide:
- From around $20,000 for a more budget-conscious kitchen
- Around $30,000 to $35,000 as a common average
- $70,000 plus for larger kitchens with premium finishes and more features
The best way to think about it is not just in terms of size, but in terms of the combination of:
- Cabinetry style
- Benchtop material
- Splashback selection
- Number of cabinets and drawers
- Overall layout and kitchen size
Your Cost Depends On Your Finishes and Size
If you are asking how much a kitchen renovation costs in Brisbane, the answer really is that it depends on the finishes you choose and how big your kitchen is.
For some people, a practical laminate kitchen is the right fit. For others, they want the routed two pack doors, the big island, the stone benchtops and all the extra details that create more of a high-end finish.
That is why the best place to start is with your must-haves, your nice-to-haves and your overall budget. From there, you can work out where to spend and where to save, without losing sight of the overall look you want.
